Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Serie A giants AS Roma to sign Brazilian midfielder Fred from Manchester United this summer.

According to a report by The Sun, Fred is the subject of interest from AS Roma. Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with the Manchester United midfielder in the summer transfer window. And the Brazilian international will likely depart from Old Trafford ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Fred spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the Internacional Academy. But he rose to prominence after moving to Europe by joining Shakhtar Donetsk in June 2013. And after half a decade at the Ukrainian club, Manchester United snapped the 30-year-old up in a deal worth £47 million.

The Brazilian international has just completed his fifth season with Manchester United. And he has turned out over 200 times at the Premier League club, chipping in with 14 goals and 19 assists. But Fred’s Manchester United future is uncertain after he entered the final year of his contract. And the situation has captured the attention of AS Roma.

At AS Roma, Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with the player he brought to Manchester United five years ago. And he has asked the Serie A giants to launch the offensive for the experienced midfielder this summer. In addition, with Fred’s future uncertain, a move to Serie A might be possible.

Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is well into his thirties. And Mourinho wants to upgrade his options in the middle of the park as he looks to take the Giallorossi back to the top four in Serie A. Fred’s name has thus emerged as a viable target for AS Roma heading into the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will unlikely recoup anything close to £47 million from Fred’s sale this summer. But AS Roma will likely face stiff competition for the Brazilian midfielder, with Fulham also interested in signing him. But the prospect of playing in Europe might tip the scales in Roma’s favour.

In addition, recent reports have claimed that Fulham might not meet Manchester United’s asking price for the 30-year-old. So it will be interesting to see if AS Roma can beat the competition to reunite Mourinho with Fred.
