Liverpool are close to acquiring the services of RB Leipzig attacker Dominik Szoboszlai amidst interest from Newcastle United.
According to The Times, Liverpool are keen on having Dominik Szoboszlai in their rank,s and talks between the two clubs are progressing to the final stages. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has a release clause of around £60 million in his contract that expires today. And, the Merseyside club could make full use of it.
Szoboszlai joined RB Leipzig back in the winter of 2021 and has not looked back since. The Hungarian international has gone from strength to strength over the past two seasons. As far as the recently-concluded season is concerned, the 22-year-old featured in 46 matches for the Bundesliga club and had a total of 23 goal contributions.
He found the back of the net on ten occasions and had 13 assists to his name. His impressive performances have attracted a lot of attention from across Europe. And, even the player is keen on joining a bigger club in the summer. But, if his release clause expires, Leipzig might have a bigger say on his future as he still has three years left on his existing deal.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 22-year-old for a while now. The Merseyside club are trying to complete a midfield overhaul and the Leipzig midfielder is one of their targets.

With his £60 million release clause expiring soon and a potential threat of a rival’s involvement, Liverpool are trying to get it sorted as soon as possible. Both the clubs are involved in serious discussions and the talks are heading into the final stages.
Once they reach an agreement on the price which is expected to close to the release clause, a deal could be finalised soon. Liverpool have already held talks with the Hungarian international and he is open to the idea of joining them. Meanwhile, Newcastle are also interested in his services. They have been closely following the 22-year-old and could push for him in the ongoing summer.
With the Magpies all set to return to the UEFA Champions League, Eddie Howe is looking at options to further strengthen his team. James Maddison was one of his targets but with his move to Tottenham Hotspur, they now need to look elsewhere.
Szoboszlai has a similar profile and they can surely push for him. But, at this point in time, the 22-year-old looks very close to joining the Merseyside club. So it looks like the young attacker has a future at Liverpool.
