Manchester United will reportedly have to pay €60 million to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer amid continued uncertainty surrounding David de Gea’s future at the club.

According to reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Manchester United have been informed that they will not get any discount in their pursuit of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Red Devils now need to reach the €60 million mark if they are to land the UEFA Champions League finalist.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a first-choice goalkeeper, with David de Gea’s future currently in the balance. De Gea has been Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper for the past 12 seasons. But he could leave when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Talks between the two parties are still open, but both sides are assessing all of their options on the table before making their next move, as per ESPN. On the other hand, the Spaniard posted a cryptic message on Twitter amid reports that the Red Devils have rescinded their initial contract extension offer to him.

Even if De Gea stays put, Erik ten Hag is insistent on a ball-playing shot-stopper to fit his system. Onana does appear to be the Dutchman’s number-one choice, having previously worked with the 27-year-old during his Ajax days.

Onana would be a huge upgrade on De Gea with his better distribution and shot-stopping. But Inter are refusing to let their No. 1 leave on the cheap despite the Italian club’s perilous financial standing.

The Cameroonian international joined the Serie A giants on a free transfer from Ajax last summer, and he swiftly ousted long-serving first-choice goalkeeper and club captain Samir Handanovic in the pecking order. He played a pivotal role in Inter’s route to last season’s Champions League final and was also instrumental in their Coppa Italia triumph.

The Red Devils are said to have conducted exploratory talks with the goalkeeper’s agent over a potential transfer, confirming their strong interest in the player. With the 27-year-old under contract at San Siro until June 2027, Inter have made it clear that it will take a fee in the region of €60 million to prise Onana away from the Italian club.

The Serie A giants could consider a €45–48 million bid from United, but only if it comes with €10–12 million of easily achievable bonuses. The big question now is whether Manchester United can afford such a fee.

Reports indicated that ten Hag has been handed a pretty modest pre-sales budget. And it looks likely that the club will spend part of it on securing the signature of Mount this summer. As well as Onana, Manchester United are also monitoring other goalkeepers, including Brentford’s David Raya and FC Porto’s Diogo Costa.
