Dani Parejo has reportedly emerged as a strong candidate to bolster the Barcelona midfield in the summer transfer window.
According to Gerard Romero on Jijantes FC, Dani Parejo is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 34-year-old is a top target to bolster the Catalan club’s midfield unit. And the newly-crowned La Liga champions are also considering moves for Oriol Romeu and Martin Zubimendi.
Dani Parejo has been one of the most underrated midfielders in La Liga in the last decade and a half. The Spanish international is a graduate of Real Madrid’s famed La Masia youth division. But he rose to prominence after joining Valencia in July 2011. And the veteran midfielder served Los Che as the club captain for several years before his emotional departure three years ago.
The 34-year-old joined another Valencian club after leaving Los Che, moving to Villarreal in a cut-price deal. And Parejo has been a pivotal figure for the Yellow Submarine, turning out nearly 150 times while chipping in with nine goals and 27 assists. But the experienced midfielder’s Villarreal future is uncertain as he will enter the final year of his contract this week. And his situation has alerted Barcelona.
Ilkay Gundogan will be the first player to bolster the Barcelona midfield in the summer transfer window. But with Franck Kessie facing an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou, the Blaugrana might need to sign another midfielder. Several candidates have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar over a possible summer move.
The report mentions three of those candidates apart from Dani Parejo. And Oriol Romeu, Martin Zubimendi, and Marcelo Brozovic also feature on Barcelona’s wishlist. Meanwhile, the newly-crowned La Liga champions are strongly evaluating the possibility of securing Parejo’s services this summer.
The 34-year-old brings a lot to the table, with his leadership abilities making him a standout candidate. In addition, the Spanish international is a versatile midfielder who can reprise various roles in the middle of the park. But Barcelona might face stiff competition for the experienced midfielder.
