Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have managed to agree on personal terms with the 22-year-old Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber.
According to a report by Football Insider, Arsenal have been keen on acquiring the services of Jurrien Timber from Ajax of late, and they have managed to verbally agree on personal terms with the 22-year-old centre-back. While the Dutch international is on the radar of multiple clubs, the Gunners are way ahead of others in the race.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal led the race for the Premeir League title right until the end of the season. But, the Gunners ran out of gas in the final phase of the season and ended up handing the title to Manchester City.
They dropped quite a lot of points in the final phase and the majority of it was because of lack of quality defensive depth. While Arsenal’s priority in the summer is to acquire the services of Declan Rice, they have also been looking for a new defender and Timber is one of their targets.
The 22-year-old has come through the ranks at the Dutch club. He has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons. Timber was the mainstay of Ajax last season making 47 appearances in all competitions.
There was a lot of interest in his services last summer. But, Ajax somehow managed to keep him at the club for another season. However, it is certain that Timber will look to join a bigger club in the ongoing summer despite having a contract with the Dutch club until the summer of 2025.
The 22-year-old is on the radar of a lot of clubs but Arsenal are ahead of others at this point in time. They have been making moves for a while now and have managed to get a major breakthrough. The Gunners have agreed personal terms with Timber.
The player is happy with the proposal as well as the project and he is eager to join them. With the verbal agreement in place, the Gunners will now move ahead with a bid in the coming days. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they can manage to land the Dutch international at the club ahead of next season.
