Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a summer deal for OGC Nice star and Newcastle United target Khephren Thuram
According to Football Insider, Premier League giants, Liverpool are interested in beating Newcastle United to the signing of OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram in the summer transfer window.
The French sensation is the son of Les Bleus legend Lilian Thuram and is one of the best young midfielders in Ligue 1 at this moment in time. Having stood out for Nice in recent months, he continues to attract attention from Liverpool and Newcastle United.
The Reds are in desperate need of young midfielders this summer. Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, and Fabinho are all getting older. Meanwhile, the summer departures of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner have left the midfield arsenal depleted.
As of yet, the Merseysiders have only brought in Alexis Mac Allister. Having been priced out of a move for Jude Bellingham, it is essential that the Reds make smart moves. A physically dominant player with the technical ability to boot, Thuram ticks the boxes and could become a dominant presence in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.
At 22, the Frenchman has at least a decade left at the top level and would be a solid investment for the Reds. He has two years left on his current deal and is ready to take the next step in his development. Klopp has a proven track record of developing youth players. And Thuram could certainly benefit from his guidance.
Currently playing in the Euro Under-21 Championships, Thuram could make a real case for his talents should he perform well. Liverpool will be advised to move quickly lest other teams also join the fray for the youngster’s signature.
Another Premier League side, Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for the Frenchman. However, the Magpies have already reached an agreement for Sandro Tonali, potentially leaving the door open for the Reds to have a free go at Thuram.
Even if Liverpool do manage to land Thuram, they will still need at least one more addition to the midfield. Some of the players on their radar include Manu Kone, Nicolo Barella, and Gabri Viega among others. It might very well prove to be a decisive summer at Anfield.
