Barcelona will reportedly contemplate re-signing 21-year-old Spanish defender Mika Marmol from FC Andorra this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Mika Marmol is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are considering re-signing the 21-year-old defender for two reasons. While the Blaugrana can sell him for a profit, the youngster can also become a handy backup in the first-team squad.
Mika Marmol oscillated between Barcelona and UFB Jabac Terrassa in his formative years. He also spent four years in CF Damm’s youth division in the middle. But he graduated from La Masia before becoming a regular for Barcelona Atletico for a couple of years. The Spaniard made his professional debut for the reserve team as an 18-year-old in October 2019.
After making gradual progress while representing Barcelona Atletic, Marmol earned his first-team debut as a 20-year-old in May 2022. But that was the only first-team appearance for the 21-year-old. And he decided to leave Barcelona to seek regular game time last summer, joining FC Andorra closer to the deadline day.
The Spanish defender progressed considerably under the tutelage of Eder Sarabia at FC Andorra. And he was a regular for the lower-league club, making 38 appearances while chipping in with one goal and one assist. And Marmol’s progress has captured the attention of a few La Liga clubs.
RCD Mallorca and Rayo Vallecano are keen on securing his services. In addition, the youngster is also a target for UD Las Palmas. But Barcelona might look to re-sign the 21-year-old Spaniard in the summer transfer window. And there are two reasons for Barcelona’s contemplation over a possible move.
The Catalan giants have a buyback clause in Marmol’s contract. Alternatively, Barcelona can rake in 50 per cent from his sale if he leaves FC Andorra. But by re-signing him after activating the repurchase clause, they can sell him for a profit. However, the newly-crowned La Liga champions are also considering integrating the Spanish defender into the first-team squad.
With Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and impending signing Inigo Martinez suffering from fitness issues this past season, the left-footed Marmol can be a backup option. But Barcelona will first concentrate on confirming the deal for Ilkay Gundogan before turning to the 21-year-old Spaniard.
