Miguel Roman is reportedly on the cusp of joining Barcelona, who will beat Real Madrid and others to the 20-year-old Spanish midfielder.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona and Real Madrid were among the clubs to show interest in Miguel Roman. And the Catalan giants are on the verge of signing the 20-year-old Pontevedra CF midfielder. The Blaugrana will assign the youngster to Barcelona Atletic.
Miguel Roman spent his formative years in anonymity, representing various clubs before landing at Pontevedra CF. A native of Vigo, the Spanish midfielder joined his current club in August 2021. And he took no time to establish himself as a pivotal figure for the Galician club this past season.
The 20-year-old turned out 41 times for Pontevedra this past season, chipping in with one goal and one assist. But Roman’s stint with the Galician outfit will likely end after just one year. And the youngster’s progress has captured the attention of a few high-profile clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are renowned for constantly scouring the market for prodigious prospects. They do not only do this to identify long-term solutions for their first-team squads but also to bolster their reserve sides. Such an outlook has most recently helped Barcelona close the agreement for Mikayil Faye.
As for the interest in Miguel Roman, Real Madrid can do with a midfielder for the Castilla side. Sergio Arribas has outgrown the team and will likely embark on a loan spell next season. And the 20-year-old Spanish midfielder is a viable target to replace Arribas at Real Madrid Castilla.
But the Merengues are losing the race to sign Roman, with the youngster on the verge of joining Barcelona. And the Blaugrana will assign him to Barcelona Atletic heading into the 2023/24 season. The Catalan giants have also beaten Osasuna and Celta Vigo to his signature, with the latter offering him the chance to play for his hometown team.
So Miguel Roman will be the second player to bolster the Barcelona Atletic squad after Mikayil Faye. With the 20-year-old Spanish midfielder on the verge of joining the Blaugrana, Real Madrid, Celta Vigo, and Osasuna must set their sights elsewhere.
