Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay set to leave on loan

Calvin Ramsay is set to leave Liverpool on loan as he closes in on a move to Preston North End for the whole of next season.

According to Paul Joyce, Calvin Ramsay is set to join Preston North End on loan in the coming days. The 19-year-old prodigy will spend the upcoming season at the Championship side as he looks to build on an injury-hit season and develop his game.

After joining Liverpool from the Scottish side Aberdeen, Calvin Ramsay was an interesting signing last season. He was the direct replacement for Neco Williams, who moved to Nottingham Forest. Jurgen Klopp may have wanted to steadily use the 19-year-old prodigy in cup games, but injury played its part.

The 19-year-old prodigy suffered an injury-ravaged campaign, making only two appearances for Liverpool. Klopp will show patience with the defender’s development but in the right way. He may not see him part of his first-team squad for the upcoming season.

Klopp is open to sending him out on loan to gain valuable first-team experience in England. Many Championship sides were keen in January, but now in the summer, he will leave for a second-tier team. Paul Joyce confirmed Ramsay is set to sign for Preston North End on loan.

It will be a season-long agreement with Preston North End, and he will hope to play regularly with the team. Liverpool will lose a player and possibly lose depth in the right-back position. With the departure of James Milner, only Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez can play right back.

However, Liverpool are already looking for new right-sided players, with Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard a target. The Frenchman can play right back and centrally, which Klopp needs from a new right-sided defender.

They are also looking at Ajax star Jurrien Timber, but Pavard, comparatively, could bring more to the table. However, as for Ramsay, he will aim to play regularly and return to Liverpool next season.

He hopes to feature in Klopp’s plans for the 2024/25 season and possibly make a breakthrough into the first team. Preston North End will hope he’s over his injury problems and deliver a consistent season in 2023/24.
