Tottenham are ready to step up their pursuit of Roger Ibanez despite AS Roma’s higher valuation of the defender.
According to Roma Giallorossa, Tottenham are set to intensify their chase for Roger Ibanez. The Roma defender could become available in the market, but only for the right price. Spurs are keen but will negotiate with the Italian giants for the 24-year-old Brazilian international.
Roma ended the season in disappointment after losing out to Sevilla in the Europa League Final. A victory in that game would have given them access to next season’s Champions League, but now they will have to contend in the second-tier tournament again.
The Italian giants might see their finances restricted without Champions League football, which could lead to few sales in the summer. They would have ideally sold Tammy Abraham to generate cash, but Roger Ibanez could leave the club with the forward injured until February 2024.
Roma values the 24-year-old Brazilian international for around €30-35 million, with plenty of clubs interested in the defender. The centre-back, personally, had a good season, playing a pivotal role under Jose Mourinho. However, he could leave to help the club raise funds for their endeavours in the market.
Roma are keen to strengthen their squad in many areas and plot a move for Granit Xhaka. For Ibanez, Tottenham are one of the suitors, but they are unwilling to pay beyond €20 million. The 24-year-old Brazilian international is viewed as a solid option for their backline.
Spurs have also made a serious offer for Victor Nelsson, who is ready to leave Galatasaray. However, if Ibanez becomes available, they might make the 24-year-old Brazilian international a priority objective in the window. With Roma wanting at least €30-35 million, Spurs might negotiate to bring the price down.
The report insists €25-30 million would suffice for Ibanez, but whether Tottenham are eager to pay remains the question. The 24-year-old Brazilian international would improve their defence and add a good layer for next season.
Tottenham might have to act fast if they are keen on the Brazilian. If they are to delay making a firm approach, then other interested parties, with much more to offer from a footballing point of view, might steal the march over Spurs.
