Newcastle United target Jules Kounde has reportedly been offered to Manchester United, with Barcelona needing some much-needed cash.
According to Caught Offside, Jules Kounde was recently offered to Manchester United. The Newcastle United target could become a man in demand, considering Barcelona may need a cash injection for their summer plans with few sales mooted about.
Xavi Hernandez took to the press to rule out an exit for Jules Kounde after rumours about the defender’s discontent with his role emerged. The Frenchman had an otherwise good season, playing more as a right-back than in his centre-back position.
Xavi specifically commented there were no issues and that he was content with the player. However, the manager’s words may not necessarily mean the truth, as was the case with their recent pursuit of Lionel Messi. Hence, any decision on Kounde will depend on Barcelona and their board.
Barcelona are facing financial uncertainty. They must raise funds through player sales to execute their summer plans. Whether they see Kounde as dispensable remains the question, but undoubtedly he remains one of their prized assets in the squad.
Hence a sale could still become a possibility if the Catalans cannot sell some of their other stars, including Frenkie De Jong. As things stand, there’s considerable interest in Kounde from Premier League sides, including Manchester United and Newcastle United.
The story insists Kounde was reportedly offered to Manchester United. The Red Devils might pivot from their primary objective of signing Kim Min-jae, as they are seemingly engaged in talks with the South Korean. However, any move for the defender could become a complex problem basis on Napoli’s stance, and hence Erik ten Hag could move on for an alternative.
Kounde could become that alternative, as he also offers versatility by playing as a right-back. They are similarly linked with Axel Disasi, the Monaco defender, who has different qualities. For the £158,000-a-week Newcastle target from Barcelona, there’s competition for the Red Devils.
The Magpies are also in the market for a new centre-back and a right-back. However, if an option like Kounde becomes available, Eddie Howe could see it as a solid alternative to a predominant central defender. However, much will depend on Barcelona’s stance and potential asking price.
For now, Kounde’s future will continue to enter speculative mode, but a decision could arrive soon. If he becomes available, the £158,000-a-week Newcastle target will have no shortage of suitors.
