Liverpool are keen on acquiring the services of 27-year-old Bayern Munich full-back Benjamin Pavard ahead of next season.
According to Christian Falk via CaughtOffside, Liverpool could sign Benjamin Pavard in the upcoming transfer window. The 27-year-old defender is looking to part ways with Bayern Munich in the summer and the Merseyside club are hot favourites to win the race for his services.
The French international has already informed the German giants that he wants to move on. And, there are quite a few clubs keen on his services. However, Falk believes Liverpool are front-runners.
Falk said: “Benjamin Pavard has informed the club that he wants to move in the summer,”
“His agents are already talking to other clubs. Among them, Liverpool is now a hot candidate.”
Pavard has been a part of the Bayern setup since the summer of 2019. He has gone from strength to strength ever since he joined the German giants. He has been integral to their success over the years.
The 27-year-old played a key role in the French national team’s historic triumph in the 2018 FIFA World Cup 2022. While Pavard still occupies an important role in the Bayern squad, the French international has decided to move on.
His contract at the club runs until the summer of 2024 but he wants to leave in the summer. And, with just a year left in his contract, Bayern won’t risk keeping him and losing him for free. As a result, a sale seems to be the most likely outcome.
Meanwhile, Chelsea, Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan are among the clubs that have been interested in his services. All the clubs are ready to push for his services and have even talked to his agents. But, Liverpool seems to be ahead of the others.
The Merseyside club seem to be the ideal destination for the 27-year-old want-away star. While Jurgen Klopp’s team will focus on signing midfielders throughout the window, they also want to acquire a new defender.
Klopp no longer trusts Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to form a reliable pair with Virgil van Dijk in the absence of Ibrahima Konate. As a result, he wants a new central defender.
While Pavard has featured as a right-back for the majority of his time at Bayern, he prefers playing as a centre-back. And, can easily slot in alongside Van Dijk.
The 27-year-old can also feature as a right-back on occasions and give Klopp the luxury to rest Trent Alexander-Arnold. But, with other clubs in the race, Liverpool will have to act as fast as possible.
