Fulham will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old Austrian attacker Patrick Wimmer from Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg this summer.
According to a report by Football Insider, Patrick Wimmer is the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers have an active interest in signing the 22-year-old attacker in the summer transfer window. And they have regularly scouted the youngster at Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg.
Patrick Wimmer spent his formative years in his homeland, rising through the ranks at SC Sitzenberg/Reidling. But he passed through a few clubs before rising to prominence during a short stint with Austria Vienna. And after a season with Arminia Bielefeld, he joined VfL Wolfsburg last summer.
The 22-year-old was not the undisputed first-choice attacker for the Bundesliga club this past season. But Wimmer managed an impressive tally of four goals and eight assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Fulham keeping tabs on him.
Fulham will enter the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window. While Willian was impressive and Harry Wilson stepped up his performance levels, Fulham will lose two wingers. That is because Manor Solomon and Daniel James will return to their parent clubs with the season drawing to a close.
The former is reportedly a target for Tottenham, whose interest might turn his head. Meanwhile, James is not good enough to be the first-choice right-winger for Fulham, even if he joins them permanently. So the Cottagers need to delve into the market for a wide attacker this summer. And Wimmer has emerged as a viable target.
The Cottagers have regularly scouted the 22-year-old Wolfsburg winger in the last few months. And the report claims that they hold an active interest in Wimmer. But Fulham will face stiff competition from several other clubs in the race to sign the young attacker from the Bundesliga club.
Meanwhile, it is unclear if Wimmer is ready to leave Wolfsburg anytime soon. With Fulham theoretically not offering anything more than improved wages, his situation is uncertain. But it will be interesting to see if the Cottagers can convince the 22-year-old to end his adventure in the Bundesliga.
