Aston Villa have been offered a chance to sign 23-year-old Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix ahead of next season.
According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Aston Villa are keen on acquiring a new forward ahead of next season and they have been offered a chance to sign Joao Felix. The 23-year-old Atletico Madrid forward’s future is uncertain and he is likely to be on the move in the upcoming transfer window.
Felix came through the ranks at Benfica before making a big money move to the Madrid-based club back in the summer of 2019. While the Portuguese international has shown glimpses of the talent he possesses, the 23-year-old hasn’t had the desired impact.
The former Benfica star has featured in a total of 131 matches for Deigo Simeone’s team and has only managed to contribute towards 52 goals. He has found the back of the net only on 34 occasions.
His game time took a hit in the 2022-23 season. Relations between the Portugal international and Simeone fell out and he was sent out on loan to Chelsea in the winter transfer window. It was a six-month straightforward loan move.
The 23-year-old made a total of 20 appearances and found the back of the net on four occasions. While his numbers aren’t impressive enough, the Blues were impressed with his overall impact and were considering acquiring his services on a permanent basis.
However, their new manager Mauricio Pochettino has ruled out a potential move. And, he is returning to his parent club. With Felix no longer on good terms with Simeone, it is likely that both parties are looking for a solution in the summer.
But, it is certain that Atletico Madrid will only sell for the right price having spent a lot on acquiring him back in the day. The Portugal international wants to continue in England and according to O’Rourke, he has been offered to Aston Villa.
Unai Emery’s men are keen on acquiring a new forward ahead of next season. The Spanish manager believes signing a new forward is crucial to take his team to the next level and they could push for him.
Villa have been ambitious in the past few windows and they do have the foundation to push for a big move. And, Felix’s arrival will surely help their cause. However, it might depend on the price the Madrid-based club are looking for.
