Newcastle United are reportedly stepping up their interest in Fenerbahce wonderkid Arda Guler and are confident of an agreement after the meeting in the Middle East.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are ramping up their efforts to sign Turkish midfielder Arda Guler in the upcoming summer transfer window after officials flew out to hold transfer talks in Dubai.
The Magpies have had a season to treasure, exceeding expectations and sealing a top-four finish in the Premier League. Champions League football is all set to return to St James’ Park at what is such an exciting time for the club.
Once the summer window rolls out, Newcastle will be expected to make significant inroads into the transfer market during the summer season, bringing in a number of new faces. Improved squad depth is paramount, especially if they are in the Champions League, so additions all over the pitch are required.
While established players will no doubt arrive at St James’ in the coming months, it is also important that the Magpies continue to plan for the future, looking to bring in young and emerging talent.
As such, the Magpies are reportedly close to sealing a deal for 18-year-old Gambia international winger Yankuba Minteh after his breakout season at Danish club Odense. Another rumour that’s refusing to go away is that Newcastle are pushing hard to land Turkish whizkid Arda Guler.
Fenerbahce are aware of the player’s potential, as Guler has racked up seven goals and eight assists in 39 competitive matches, and are giving him additional game time to reach the 1500 minutes threshold required to eliminate the bargain €5 million release clause in his contract until 2025. An attacking midfielder by nature, the youngster has impressed onlookers with his technical brilliance and tactical versatility.
Guler’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona also interested in his services. The Catalans, though, are facing immense competition from Newcastle United and Ajax, among others. But despite the competition, Barça have maintained their interest in the player and could be willing to take the bet on Guler.
However, the biggest obstacle for the Blaugrana will be financing the move, which gives Newcastle a real edge in their transfer pursuit, having already held talks with his family in Dubai.
Dubbed the “Turkish Messi”, Guler could be a hugely exciting signing by Newcastle at the end of the season, not necessarily coming in as an immediate starter, but as a long-term acquisition with a high ceiling.
Newcastle could certainly use more creativity from the central areas, and Guler, if he’s not sent back out on loan to get regular minutes elsewhere, will add creativity and goals to the side next season.
