Manchester United graduate Scott McTominay is all set to leave Old Trafford amidst interest from Newcastle United.
According to Dean Jones via GIVEMESPORT, Scott McTominay is all set to part ways with Manchester United. The 26-year-old has been a great servant of the club. But his time at the club might end in the upcoming transfer window.
McTominay has been a part of the Manchester United setup since he was 5 years old. The 26-year-old has come up the ranks at the club and has established himself as an important first-team player. The Scottish international was promoted to the first team back in the summer of 2017 and has since featured in 208 matches for the Red Devils. He also has 24 goal contributions to his name.
While the 26-year-old is still an important part of their first team, he is used as a substitute on the majority of the occasions. And, he has hardly started games throughout the season under Erik ten Hag. He has featured in 38 matches but has been on the pitch for less than 1,700 minutes.
The Scottish defensive midfielder wants to play more regularly and as a result, he is considering a move away from the club. While his contract with United runs until the summer of 2025, the 26-year-old is expected to be on the move in the summer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are already looking for reinforcement in the centre of the park. They are on the look for a new world-class central midfielder. Someone who can help them be competitive in both the Champions League and the Premier League. As a result, they are open to the idea of letting the 26-year-old leave but only if their asking price of £50 million is met.
Jones said: “Yeah, I think we should probably expect an exit for him. From a playing perspective, it makes sense that he shows ambition to play more games in the Premier League. He is a good player, it’s just that he might not fit in with the direction that United are heading and how quickly they want to get there.”
Newcastle United are one of the clubs keen on having McTominay. They had enquired about his services back in the winter but the Red Devils were not open to letting him leave midway through the season.
Eddie Howe is a big admirer of the player and he could once again push for his services in the summer. They have the financial power to pull off the move. As a result, we might see the Manchester United academy graduate feature for the Magpies next season.
