Sacha Boey may open the doors to sign for Arsenal amid speculations the Premier League side could move for the £20 million-rated right back.
According to Simon Collings of the Evening Standard, Sacha Boey might be inclined to join Arsenal. The north Londoners are keen to bring in a new right back as competition for Ben White and tactical reasons, with the £20 million-rated Galatasaray star high on their list.
Arsenal will take on Wolves in the final game of this eventful Premier League season. The Gunners missed the title after a thorough challenge to win it throughout the campaign. Reflecting on what has panned out, Mikel Arteta laid out what’s needed to reach the next level during his press conference.
Arteta said, “We have to nail everything that we do, and we have to seek excellence in everything that we touch and participate in, to have a big impact at the club,”
“I think the competition is going to be even harder than this season. In my opinion, it’s been the hardest of the 22 years that I’ve been in this league. “In order to do that, we have a really promising plan. We may have to reflect a little bit, take a step back, make sure this is the right one and go again with more determination and hunger in the tummies to do even better.”
Arteta points strongly to improving the current squad through the transfer market. Among some key requirements, the Gunners seek a solid right-back option to add depth and improve competition for places, with Ben White, the current incumbent.
The English defender has taken on the new role with aplomb and played the way Arteta would have wanted. However, with the injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu at a crucial stage of the season and that of William Saliba’s, the Gunners suffered without sufficient depth in the right defensive positions.
Hence, bringing in a new right-back seems imperative in the upcoming window. Arsenal have held an interest in Sacha Boey and some other notable players, including Joao Cancelo and Jules Kounde. The latter duo would cost significantly, something the club may not spend on a new full-back as they target key midfield additions in the summer.
They have remained keen on Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda, with the Spaniard part of their shortlist. RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan also features here, with the three, including Boey will cost significantly less compared to some big names.
Some reports from the past few days indicated that Arsenal had moved for Boey, who has now switched representation while anticipating a transfer. The stories suggested Galatasaray had rejected a bid much lower than their £20 million valuations.
Arsenal might strategise here, but there is plenty of competition for Boey from English clubs. The £20 million-rated Arsenal target could become a key addition for Arteta, but there’s a feeling the Gunners will weigh in and compare prices of different targets like Fresneda.
Boey will remain on their shortlist and potentially open the door to sign for Arsenal if the Premier League giants make a concrete offer. There’s nothing new to report for now, and many will have to wait for the season to end and the window to open.
