Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Dutch international defender Perr Schuurs in recent months.
However, a report from Tuttosport (via SportWitness) claims that the 23-year-old Dutchman will stay at Torino beyond the season and he is unlikely to join Liverpool.
Liverpool are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements and they will have to bring in an upgrade on players like Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. The two defenders have been largely underwhelming this season and Liverpool must look to bring in a quality defensive partner for Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.
The 23-year-old Dutchman has done quite well since his move to the Italian club and he has the ability to succeed at a top Premier League club as well.
His decision to stay in Italy for another season at the very least will certainly come as a blow for Liverpool and it remains to be seen whether the Reds can find a quality alternative.
It has been a disappointing season for Liverpool so far and they have missed out on Champions League qualification for the next season.
They will have to improve the squad during the summer transfer window in order to challenge for trophies next year and get back into the top four.
Signing a quality defender should be on top of their priority list along with the number of midfielders.
The Dutchman is quite young and he is likely to develop further with coaching and experience.
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can convince the player to join them in the near future.
The opportunity to play in the Premier League can be an attractive option and he would also get the opportunity to unite with his compatriot Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.
Liverpool certainly have the financial resources to convince Torino to sell their prized prospect and it remains to be seen whether they can turn on the player’s head first.
