Manchester United to step up Harry Kane pursuit

Erik ten Hag is ‘obsessed’ about signing Harry Kane, as Manchester United could test Tottenham with an approach.

According to The Guardian, Manchester United are ready to step up the chase for Harry Kane. Erik ten Hag is reportedly ‘obsessed’ with the 29-year-old Premier League star and could urge the Red Devils to test Daniel Levy’s resolve with an approach.

Manchester United need a striker and have internally discussed some notable options ahead of the summer. Erik ten Hag has identified the problem area in his squad and remains keen to bring a new No.9. Does the question remain who the Red Devils would manage to sign?

Several options have been discussed internally, but the final decision will depend on the price their targets are available for. Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos remains an option, and so does Victor Osimhen. The latter’s potential £130 million asking price could put off Manchester United. However, they might still try.

As per the report, Manchester United are ready to test Daniel Levy’s resolve with a sizeable offer. They may have to embark on a difficult task to convince the Spurs supremo, who may be a challenging sell. The Tottenham chairman will not let go of his prized asset easily.

Tottenham have always remained wary about allowing Kane a departure. Two years ago, he seemed closer to joining Manchester City, but Levy stood firm in his stance. With a year left on his contract, Manchester United may feel they have a good chance to lure the 29-year-old Premier League star, but it’s a difficult prospect.

Recent stories have hinted at Kane possibly signing an extension to continue at Tottenham. While he has remained silent, it’s not like two years ago when he made his intentions clear about a departure. Despite Tottenham struggling for relevance this season, Kane might stay put.

However, Manchester United will want to determine the price Tottenham might consider and then devise a plan to sign the 29-year-old Premier League star. There’s nothing on this front for now, as much will happen late in the window.

Levy is known to slow down negotiations and prolong letting any of his important players depart. For Manchester United, convincing the Tottenham Chairman to sell to their direct rivals is a monumental task. Yet, much will get clearer as the transfer window opens on June 14th.
