Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a summer deal for Galatasaray star Sacha Boey

According to the Turkish source Takvim, Premier League giants Arsenal are eyeing a summer move for Galatasaray star Sacha Boey.

The Gunners are coming off a promising yet underwhelming season that saw them mount their first title challenge in many a year. Mikel Arteta’s men eventually fell short and it is clear they need more strength in depth to challenge Manchester City over the course of a campaign.

The 22-year-old came through the ranks at Rennes, eventually making his first-team bow for the Ligue 1 side in 2019. Currently, at Galatasaray, he continues to develop his game further in the Turkish Super Lig.

Primarily a right-back, Boey is also capable of doing a job on the other flank. Arsenal have used Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu on the right flank and signing Boey could see them shift White back into the centre-back position.

More so, the French youngster’s ability to play at left-back is handy given that Kieran Tierney has been linked with an exit from the Emirates in the summer. Oleksandr Zinchenko has impressed in the role since arriving from Manchester City, but with UEFA Champions League back on the table, the Ukrainian star cannot be expected to play every single game.

Arsenal and Galatasaray have a decent relationship and arranged a deal that saw Lucas Torreira swap London for Turkey last summer. Galatasaray vice president Erden Timur and Arsenal officials have a direct line of contact and this could benefit the Gunners should they seek a summer deal.

The Turkish giants were seeking €25 million for Boey, and his value will only have increased of late. The onus is now on Arsenal to come to terms with the asking price and reach an agreement. Boey has excellent potential and is certainly a diamond in the rough. However, he has no experience of playing in the physically competitive Premier League and should take some adjusting.

Even if he is to arrive in north London, it is debatable just how well he can perform off the bat at a level expected of him. He should, however, fit in well with the young squad that Arteta is putting together and could certainly develop into a reliable player with the right guidance.

It is debatable if Arsenal are better off bringing in more established players than prospects to build upon their promise shown this season. The last thing they want is to be overtaken by the likes of Liverpool, Nerwcastle United and co, all of whom are expected to strengthen once the window opens.
