Barcelona will reportedly aim to recoup €12 million by selling 27-year-old French defender Clement Lenglet to Tottenham this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Tottenham will look to sign Clement Lenglet permanently from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. And the Catalan giants expect to add €12 million to their coffers by selling the 27-year-old to the North London club.

Clement Lenglet was once one of the best defenders in La Liga. After an impressive 2017/18 season with Sevilla, the Frenchman joined Barcelona in July 2018. And in those few years, very few centre-backs were at his level. But his performances regressed after a solid start to his Barcelona stint. And the Blaugrana shipped him off to Tottenham on loan for the ongoing campaign.

The 27-year-old has blown hot and cold thus far this season, failing to perform consistently. But Lenglet has been a regular for Tottenham, turning out 34 times across all competitions. However, the player’s future is uncertain, with Barcelona looking to finalise his sale in the summer transfer window.

Reports until March painted a contradictory picture, with some insisting that Tottenham did not want to sign Lenglet permanently. But the North London giants have since changed their minds, with Ryan Mason suggesting this week that a summer move is on the cards.

Tottenham’s caretaker boss said, “The talks for Lenglet to stay at Tottenham will take place in the summer. I would say that Lenglet is the type of player we want. He is professional and he is doing well. We will talk to him in the summer.”

Recent reports have claimed that talks between Barcelona and Tottenham have advanced, with the Blaugrana closing in on completing Lenglet’s sale. And the report by AS has claimed that the Catalan giants expect to recoup €12 million from the agreement. That will help them balance their books and direct the funds to spend on top targets.

A summer agreement between Tottenham and Barcelona for Lenglet seems likely. And it will be interesting to see if the North London club will shell out €12 million to secure the Frenchman’s services. For now, the 27-year-old will be focused on ending the season strongly before stabilising his future.
