Manchester United considering Antony sale

Manchester United are considering offloading 23-year-old forward Antony just a year after signing him from Ajax.

According to a report by Fichajes, Manchester United are considering parting ways with Antony just a year after signing him. The 23-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations of the club and their fans. And, he might be on his way out in the upcoming summer window.

Antony came into the limelight while playing for Ajax. He joined the Dutch club back in the summer of 2020. And, went from strength to strength during his time in the Netherlands. The 23-year-old racked up 82 appearances in his two seasons at the club and was involved in 46 goals.

He scored 24 goals and created the remaining 22. Antony’s performances caught the eye of quite a few clubs and there was a bidding war for his services ahead of the ongoing season. Manchester United managed to come out on top and signed him for a fee of €95 million.

Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag was keen on having him in his ranks. And, the club managed to fulfil his desire. While the Dutch manager has done a decent job in his first season, his big-money signing Antony has not lived up to the expectations.

Ten Hag has won a trophy in his very first season at the club. And, he has managed to keep Manchester United in the top-four race until the very end of the season. However, it remains to be seen whether he can secure Champions League football with just a few fixtures still left.

Meanwhile, his priority signing has not had the desired impact. The 23-year-old has been involved in 45 matches and has 15 goal contributions in total. He has scored 10 goals and has five assists. While his numbers in front of goal are decent, it is not what Manchester United expected after spending a fortune on him. They wanted him to have a bigger impact but he hasn’t delivered.

And, they are already pondering on whether to keep him or let him leave the club just a year after signing him. If Manchester United end up letting him leave the club, they are unlikely to recover the big amount that they spent on the 23-year-old. As a result, it will be interesting to see where Antony plays his football next season.
