Barcelona will have to battle it out with Manchester City for 28-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Manchester City are both keen on having Joshua Kimmich in their ranks. The 28-year-old midfielder’s future at Bayern Munich is uncertain, and he might be on the move in the summer.
Kimmich joined the German giants back in the summer of 2015 from VfB Stuttgart. Over the years, he has gone from strength to strength. And, is amongst their best players at this point in time. The 28-year-old has been having another great season in Germany, he has been involved in 45 matches and has 18 goal contributions.
While the German international loves to play for Bayern, he has started to consider his future after recent events. The atmosphere inside the locker room is not that great, the players have their own groups. And, on top of that the sudden sacking of Julian Nagelsmann didn’t go down well with Kimmich.
The 28-year-old has been considering a move away from the club of late. Meanwhile, Barcelona and Manchester City are in the race for his signatures. Sergio Busquets is all set to leave Barcelona after an 18-year-long spell at the club. And, the Catalan giants are on the look for a new holding midfielder.
They have their eyes on Martín Zubimendi. But, his €60 million release clause is a touch too much for a financially struggling Barcelona side. Meanwhile, the Catalan giants believe Kimmich, whose contract at Bayern ends in the summer of 2025, could be a cheaper option than Zubimendi.
The German giants do not tend to keep players who are not happy at the club. And, if Kimmich is no longer interested in staying at Bayern, they might let the €80 million-rated midfielder leave on the cheap. He will surely be a great fit for Barcelona as he can directly slot in the role that Busquets used to play. On top of that, he can even feature as a right-back, another position that Xavi wants to strengthen ahead of next season.
Barcelona will have to square up against Manchester City for his signatures. Ilkay Gundogan’s contract runs out at the end of the season. And if he ends up leaving them, Pep Guardiola will have to look for an ideal replacement. Manchester City might thus focus towards his Kimmich with whom he had worked at Bayern in the past.
