Liverpool are ready to sign Alexis Mac Allister in a deal worth £70 million and beat off competition for the 24-year-old.
According to Daily Mirror, Liverpool are willing to spend £70 million to strike a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion for Alexis Mac Allister. The 24-year-old has come in for high demand ahead of the summer window, with several other top English clubs keen on signing the midfielder. But the Merseysiders are the favourites.
Jurgen Klopp will like to take the first steps towards recruiting in key positions well before the summer window opens. In recent windows, the idea of bringing in players early has worked well for Liverpool. And the the Reds’ manager wants the club to keep going similarly.
Ahead of the summer, Liverpool are in the market for at least two new midfielders as Klopp remains eager to revamp the position. Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as their priority target for some weeks, and the Merseysiders want to acquire the 24-year-old immediately.
Liverpool may have already offered him personal terms, including a bumper pay rise for the 24-year-old. However, they still have to agree on a fee with Brighton for the Argentine World Cup winner. They are aware of the growing interest in the midfielder, which could push them to make the deal early.
Mac Allister is also keen to join Liverpool, which could make the task easier for Klopp’s side. However, if other clubs can overpower Brighton with important financial proposals, the Reds will face a challenge. Hence, they are willing to spend £70 million to broker a deal and finalise an agreement.
Liverpool could feel £70 million might prove the right figure to convince Brighton. The Seagulls signed Mac Allister for only £4 million and are about to make a massive profit with the 24-year-old’s sale. Other clubs could also come in at that price range, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Arsenal’s name emerged in the report, with Mikel Arteta also searching for midfield reinforcements. The Gunners’ boss is more keen on Mac Allister’s Brighton teammate Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice as priority targets for the summer.
However, the Gunners are unlikely to move for Mac Allister, paving the way for Liverpool to make their move. For now, the Reds will clarify their project to the player and his representatives before making a firm offer to Brighton to seal the deal.
