Ruben Neves has been linked with a summer move away from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Barcelona closing in on signing him.
Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing Ruben Neves, and a report from Mundo Deportivo claims that the Spanish club have now secured a verbal agreement to sign the 25-year-old. The accord with Jorge Mendes entails Barcelona to pay €30 million less than what Ansu Fati’s sale will recoup.
Neves has established himself as one of the most reliable midfielders in the Premier League since arriving from FC Porto, and he deserves to play at a higher level. A move to Barcelona would be the ideal next step in the midfielder’s career. The 25-year-old would add control, composure and creativity to the Barcelona midfield.
The Catalan giants will be looking to bring in midfield reinforcements this summer, especially with Sergio Busquets on his way out of the club. Although Ruben Neves does not have the defensive abilities of the veteran midfielder, he could certainly help Barcelona control proceedings in the middle of the park.
If the Blaugrana can supplement the likes of Ruben Neves and Frenkie de Jong with a quality defensive midfielder, it could sort out their midfield unit for the foreseeable future. The Wolves midfielder has been linked with clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool as well.
However, a move to Spain has always been on the cards for him. And the opportunity to move to Barcelona will be impossible for him to turn down. It would be a major step up in his career, and the 25-year-old will be hoping to showcase his qualities at the highest level.
Barcelona are close to winning La Liga this season, and they will be hoping to do well in the Champions League next year. They will need to improve the squad in order to do well in the European competition and players like Neves will certainly transform them. But the verbal agreement entails Barcelona to pay €30 million less than what Ansu Fati’s sale will fetch.
