Reiss Nelson turns down Arsenal contract offer

Reiss Nelson has reportedly been linked with a summer move away from Arsenal, and he has rejected a contract offer from the Gunners.

Reiss Nelson has struggled for first-team football at Arsenal, and he needs to leave the club in order to play regularly. Apparently the Gunners have offered him a new long-term contract. But a report from Football Insider claims that the winger has now turned it down.

Nelson wants game-time assurances at the North London club. But it remains to be seen whether Arsenal are prepared to offer him ample first-team action. He is currently on a £15,000-a-week contract at the Emirates.

The 23-year-old is yet to start a single Premier League game for Arsenal this season. But a player of his quality deserves to play more often. The youngster has three goals and three assists across 16 appearances this season, and he is good enough to start for a Premier League club regularly.

The player’s contract will be up in June, and it remains to be seen whether he can secure a permanent exit from Arsenal in the coming weeks. The Gunners have been keen on continuing contract renewal talks with Nelson.

Nelson is undoubtedly a talented young player with a big future ahead of him. But Arsenal might not be able to provide him with the platform he requires right now. The Gunners already have players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli for the wide-attacking berths. They will not be able to accommodate the 23-year-old in the starting lineup any time soon.

Furthermore, Arsenal have been linked with a number of attacking players in recent weeks. They are set to return to the UEFA Champions League next year and might look to bring in quality players this summer. Nelson could thus find himself further down the pecking order at the North London club. And it makes sense for the two parties to go their separate ways.

Nelson is unlikely to have any shortage of suitors this summer, especially if he is available on a free transfer. The 23-year-old could prove to be a solid, long-term signing for most clubs. And he will fancy his chances of developing into a Premier League regular over the coming seasons.
