Newcastle United are keen on having the 22-year-old Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte in their ranks ahead of next season.
According to Record via Sport Witness, Newcastle United are expected to make a bid for Manuel Ugarte in the upcoming window. They have been interested in the 22-year-old midfielder for a while now and are expected to place a bid in the coming weeks for the Sporting midfielder.
Ugarte joined Sporting CP back in the summer of 2021 from Famalicao. He has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons. And, quite a few clubs are interested in having him in their ranks.
The Uruguay international has featured in 83 matches for the Portuguese club and has been involved in four goals. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, Ugarte has made 45 appearances. He has been the mainstay for Sporting in the centre of the park.
While his contract at Sporting CP runs until the summer of 2026, the 22-year-old is likely to be on the move in the summer. There is a €60 million release clause in his contract that could see him join a bigger club in the upcoming window.
The Portuguese club were well aware of the situation and wanted to give him a new contract with an increased release clause of around €80 million. However, the player is not interested in penning down a contract at this point in time. Even he wants to join a team with an even bigger and more ambitious project.
Uruguayan club Fenix still have a few percent of the player’s rights, and Sporting CP are pushing to buy it as they prepare to offload him in the summer amidst interest from Newcastle United.
The Magpies have done great in the ongoing season. They are likely to be involved in the UEFA Champions League next season. And, manager Eddie Howe is keen on bolstering the Newcastle United squad ahead of next season to be competitive in both competitions next season.
He wants further reinforcement in the centre of the park. And, their priority is to prise the 22-year-old away from Portugal. He is a rock in front of the back four and can surely help the cause of Newcastle. The club are ready to place a bid for the Uruguayan international in the coming weeks.
However, they will have to put forward an offer of around €60 million to stand a chance. Sporting CP will only let him leave for an offer close to his release clause after failing to increase it in the recent past.
