Liverpool midfielder James Milner wants to join Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer amidst interest from Leeds United.
According to Football Insider, James Milner has rejected the chance to join Leeds United in favour of Brighton & Hove Albion. The 37-year-old midfielder is all set to part ways with Liverpool after the end of the season. Meanwhile, the report suggest that Milner has a verbal agreement with Brighton over a move in the summer.
The former England international came through the ranks at Leeds United. He was a part of their first team for a couple of seasons. He made 53 appearances for them and had six-goal contributions for them. Back in the day, Milner had suggested that he was open to a move to the Whites.
Milner said, “You never know in football what’s around the corner. I’m biased, but I think the Premier League will be a better place with Leeds in it.”
But, it seems he has rejected the chance to join his former club. And, if reports are to be believed, the club understands that they were not in the position to attract the 37-year-old. Leeds are currently fighting for survival and there is a big possibility that they might not feature in the English top flight next season.
Meanwhile, Milner has been on the radar of Brighton ever since it was made clear that he would part ways with the Merseyside club. The veteran midfielder has been a great servant for Liverpool. He has made over 325 appearances and has also contributed towards 72 goals for the Reds.
However, with his contract set to expire in the summer, the 37-year-old is all set to part ways with the club that he joined back in the summer of 2015. And, Brighton are likely to win the race for his signatures.
Roberto De Zerbi has done a great job since taking over at Brighton. And, he is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of next season. De Zerbi wants to add more experience to his ranks and would love to have Milner at his disposal.
Despite being 37, the Liverpool midfielder still has a few years left in him. And, he could be a great addition to the Seagulls given his versatility. Milner can feature in multiple positions and it is something that could surely help the Italian manager when the going gets tough.
