Newcastle United have reportedly expressed interest in signing Brazilian international Raphinha from Barcelona in a deal worth £60 million.
According to a report by Football Insider, Raphinha is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. And the Magpies have registered their interest in the Brazilian international, who will cost around £60 million. And the former Leeds United talisman might leave Barcelona if they re-sign Lionel Messi in the summer transfer window.
Raphinha has endured a rollercoaster ride since completing a dream move to Barcelona. The 26-year-old was determined to embark on a new adventure after helping Leeds United remain in the Premier League. And once Barcelona came calling, he did not consider any other options.
But Raphinha’s spell thus far has been a mixed bag as he blew hot and cold in the first few months. But the Brazilian international has risen in stature, especially during Ousmane Dembele’s injury-enforced absence. And he has a solid tally of nine goals and ten assists in 43 appearances thus far this term.
However, Raphinha’s long-term Barcelona future is uncertain amid the speculation surrounding Lionel Messi. And with recent reports claiming that discussions between the two parties have advanced, a few players might be on the chopping block, including the 26-year-old. Such a development has come as a boost for the player’s suitors, including Newcastle United.
The report claims that the Magpies have registered their interest in the Brazilian international. But securing Raphinha’s services will not be cheap, with a deal likely to cost around £60 million. That said, with Newcastle United being one of the richest clubs in the world, they might not have any qualms about paying £60 million for the Barcelona attacker.
The interest in the former Leeds United talisman is understandable. And while Miguel Almiron has been sensational this season, the Barcelona attacker will be an upgrade. Newcastle United will thus hope to initiate talks with Barcelona in the coming weeks.
