Real Madrid will reportedly attempt to sign 23-year-old Dutch defender Perr Schuurs, also known as the “new Virgil van Dijk” if Nacho leaves.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Perr Schuurs is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions view the 23-year-old defender if Nacho leaves in the summer transfer window. The Torino centre-back is also known as the “new Virgil van Dijk”.
Perr Schuurs spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at FC RIA and Fortuna Sittard. But he rose to prominence after joining Ajax from Fortuna Sittard a few years ago. And after a few years with the Dutch giants, he moved to Italy, with Torino signing the Dutch defender in August 2022.
The 23-year-old has been a regular for the Serie A outfit, turning out 30 times while chipping in with one goal and two assists. Meanwhile, the youngster has earned the moniker of the “new Virgil van Dijk” with his exploits in his career thus far. And Schuur’s progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
The reigning La Liga champions are in a spot of bother over Nacho’s long-term future. Talks between Real Madrid and the Spanish defender have not progressed well. And the veteran utility man might depart from the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
In addition, David Alaba is on the wrong side of 30, with injuries bothering him in the ongoing season. So it behoves Real Madrid to scour the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window. Several centre-backs, including Kim Min-jae, have thus emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. And Perr Schuurs is also a viable target for Los Blancos.
The 23-year-old is known as the “new Virgil van Dijk”, meaning he should have a high ceiling. And Real Madrid can ideally sign Schuurs as a long-term solution at the heart of the defence. But the Merengues will only launch the offensive for the Dutchman if Nacho calls it quits this summer.
