Liverpool are all set to receive a huge blow in their pursuit of 24-year-old Chelsea star midfielder Mason Mount.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are keen on having Mason Mount in their ranks ahead of next season. He has been on their radar for a while now. But, the latest reports suggest that they might suffer a blow in their pursuit of the England international.
Mount has been a part of the Blues since his childhood ranks. The 24-year-old has come up the ranks at the club and has been subject to multiple loan moves in order to gain first-team experience. The English midfielder was promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2019.
He has gone from strength to strength since. Mount has been a key part of their first team over the last few seasons. He played an integral part in their success in the UEFA Champions League back in the day. However, his future at the club is uncertain amidst reports of him rejecting multiple contract extension offers.
The 24-year-old’s contract at the club ends in the summer of 2024. The Blues have tried to extend it by offering him numerous contract extension offers. However, the player is not happy with the offers presented as he wants to earn at par with the club’s highest earners.
With just over a year left in his contract, the Blues might be forced to sell him in the summer. They might not want to risk losing him for free in the following summer transfer window.
Mount has featured in 35 matches in the ongoing season and has 9 goal contributions. His game time has gone down in the past few weeks and he could miss the remainder of the season due to injury.
Despite not being at his best in the current campaign, there are quite a few clubs interested in his services. Liverpool have been keeping an eye on the 24-year-old for a while now. The Merseyside club are looking to revamp their midfield in the summer and Mount is amongst their priority transfer targets.
The England international is a versatile player who can feature in multiple positions and he can surely bolster their squad. But, recent reports suggest that Mount will prefer joining a Champions League club.
While Liverpool can feature in the Europa League, they are unlikely to qualify for the UCL. As a result, they are all set to suffer a huge blow in their pursuit of the 24-year-old. There are other Premier League clubs who have their eyes on Mount and they could use Champions League football to lure the English midfielder to their club.
