Newcastle make initial moves to sign Piotr Zielinski

Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski has been linked with a summer move away from the Serie A club, with Newcastle United interested.

Piotr Zielinski has a contract with Napoli until the summer of 2024, and the Serie A club could be under pressure to cash in on him if he does not sign an extension with them soon. A report from Spazio Napoli claims that the player on is €4 million per season, and Napoli are not willing to offer him better terms because of the wage cap set at the club by Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Napoli have previously let players like Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne leave the club as free agents. And they could go down a similar path with Zielinski as well. However, the 28-year-old has generated a lot of interest from the Premier League, which could force Napoli to cash in on him.

The report claims that Newcastle United are keen on signing the midfielder, and the Magpies have already made their first moves to sign him at the end of the season. The midfielder has seven goals and ten assists to his name across all competitions and he could prove to be the ideal acquisition for Eddie Howe.

The Magpies will have to bring in a quality partner for Bruno Guimaraes. And the Polish international seems like an ideal fit. He has the physicality and technical ability to succeed in English football, and he would add some much-needed craft and vision to the Newcastle midfield.

The Magpies have struggled to break down stubborn defences this season and they have drawn 11 league games. They will be hoping to turn those draws into wins next year, and a player like Zielinski will certainly help create more goalscoring opportunities for his teammates.

The 28-year-old has proven his quality in Serie A with Napoli, and he is close to winning the league title with them. He could be tempted to try out a new challenge at this stage of his career. So a move to Newcastle could appeal to him.

The Magpies are well-placed to secure Champions League qualification, and they are the richest club in the world. The Polish international will fancy his chances of winning trophies with the English club if he ends up joining them.
