Valentin Castellanos has reportedly emerged on Barcelona’s radar following his performance in Girona’s recent win over Real Madrid.
According to reputed Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti, Valentin Castellanos is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The 24-year-old Girona striker was recently impressive with his display against Real Madrid. And the Catalan giants believe the attacker will be the ideal foil for Lionel Messi if the PSG wizard returns to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.
Valentin Castellanos has been a revelation since joining Girona from New York City FC. The Argentine forward has represented clubs in Chile, Uruguay, and the USA. But his stock has risen considerably since joining Spanish club Girona last summer.
The 24-year-old has amassed 12 goals and one assist in 31 appearances across all competitions thus far this term. And he was recently in the limelight after scoring all four goals in the shock win over Real Madrid this week. Castellanos’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona interested in signing him.
Barcelona will likely enter the market for a striker in the summer transfer window. That is because Xavi Hernandez does not have a backup for Robert Lewandowski in his squad. Barcelona will thus prefer to sign a prodigious young striker who can initially be Lewandowski’s understudy before replacing him. Vitor Roque has thus emerged as a top target for the Blaugrana.
But Athletico Paranaense will charge a bomb to part ways with the Brazilian prodigy in the summer transfer window. That puts Barcelona in a spot of bother, leaving other suitors with a better chance to sign him. So the Catalan giants need to identify alternatives to Vitor Roque heading into the summer.
Several other strikers have thus popped up on Barcelona’s radar. But according to Toni Juanmarti, Valentin Castellanos is also a viable target for the Blaugrana. The Catalan giants view the 24-year-old Argentine striker as the ideal foil for Lionel Messi. And with talks to re-sign the PSG wizard progressing well, Castellanos might be a solution.
The Girona striker is a runner whose movement off the ball will bring the best out of Barcelona’s gameplay if it features Messi. But it will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants launch the offensive to sign the 24-year-old in the coming months.
