Tottenham in transfer tussle to sign Andreas Christensen

Tottenham Hotspur are all set to battle it out with Newcastle United and Aston Villa for the services of Andreas Christensen.

According to a report by Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Andreas Christensen ahead of next season. The 27-year-old defender has been in sensational form in the ongoing season for Barcelona. His performances have attracted a lot of attention of late. And, the Catalan giants might let him leave as they look to solve their financial crisis.

Christensen has hardly put a foot wrong in the ongoing season. His market value has skyrocketed and Barcelona might look to cash in on him. While Spurs are keen on the Danish international, they will have to battle it out with Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

Christensen was a part of Chelsea back in the day. He came through the ranks at the London club and even featured in their first team for a few years. The 27-year-old was involved in 161 matches for the Blues. The player decided against renewing his contract at Chelsea and he left for Barcelona ahead of the ongoing season. The Danish international has since featured in 25 matches.

He has been instrumental in their incredible run in the league. Christensen has been a big factor in the Catalan giants having the best defence in the league. His performances have resulted in a lot of attention from English clubs. And, the fact that he has experience playing in the Premier League make him a great option for them.

Tottenham want to strengthen their defence ahead of next season. People at the club are not impressed with the performance of Eric Dier and Davison Sanchez. The club are desperate to upgrade their centre-back options and believe Christensen could be an ideal option. And, given their good relations with Barcelona they might have an edge over Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, the Magpies want to sign a new defender ahead of next season. They want to have more depth in the heart of defence as they look to push for the Premier League title next season. The Magpies might even feature in the Champions League next season. As a result, they are looking to strengthen their defensive rotation by adding Christensen to the mix alongside Fabian Schär and Sven Botman.

Aston Villa have done wonders under Unai Emery in the ongoing season. However, Emery is keen on further bolstering his squad ahead of next season. The Spanish manager is expected to push a centre-back as they look to take the next step in the upcoming season. He believes Christensen could form a great pair with Diego Carlos.

With Tottenham involved in a transfer tussle for the 27-year-old’s services, it will be interesting to see if they manage to come out on top. For now, the former Chelsea defender appears likely to leave Barcelona.
