Barcelona are interested in acquiring the services of 27-year-old Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard ahead of next season.
According to a report by Fichajes, Barcelona want to sign Benjamin Pavard. The Catalan giants have had quite a few issues in the right-back position for a few years now. They have not been able to find the perfect fit for the right-sided full-back role and want to sign the 27-year-old to sort it out.
Pavard joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019. And, he has gone from strength to strength since joining the German giants. He has featured in over 150 matches for Bayern and has been involved in 24 goals. He has found the back of the net on 12 occasions and has created the remaining 12.
As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the French international has featured in 38 matches and has found the back of the net on seven occasions. He has been an integral part of their team for the last few seasons. But, his future is uncertain at this point in time.
Pavard’s contract at the club runs until the summer of 2024. And, with just over a year left in his contract, Bayern will have to decide whether they want to renew his deal or cash in on him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
His future might depend on their new coach Thomas Tuchel who recently took charge of the club after they sacked Julian Nagelsmann. The former Chelsea boss will have to make a decision in the coming weeks on whether he considers the 27-year-old an important part of his squad or whether he could afford his departure.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are keen on having Pavard in their ranks. The Catalan giants have done a great job in the league. They have an 11-point lead at the top of the table. However, their run in Europe did not go according to plan. And, Xavi wants to further strengthen his squad before heading into next season. Barcelona have been struggling to find a right-back for a few years now.
They have tried and tested quite a few players but are not satisfied with the results. The Spanish manager wants it sorted in the summer. He is keen on signing Pavard and has given the green light. Xavi believes his arrival will bolster their defence. And, the fact that he can play both as a centre-back and a full-back is a cherry on top for Xavi’s men.
However, his future will depend on Tuchel’s decision. As a result, it will be interesting to see where he ends up playing his football next season.
