Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of 34-year-old Bayern Munich shot-stopper Yann Sommer.
According to The Telegraph, Manchester are interested in signing Yann Sommer ahead of next season. The Red Devils are keen on having further reinforcements in the goalkeeping position and would love to have the Bayern Munich shot-stopper at their disposal.
Sommer was the undisputed number one for Borussia Mönchengladbach for years. The Swiss international was the mainstay of their team. And, his performances resulted in a Bayern Munich transfer in the winter window of the ongoing season.
Manuel Neuer’s injury meant Bayern had to go looking for a new shot-stopper. And, the German giants decided to land Sommer at the club. The 34-year-old has done a decent job since arriving at Bayern.
But, with Neuer likely to return ahead of next season, Sommer might be surplus to requirements and they might look to offload him.
The Swiss international has featured in a total of 30 matches throughout the ongoing season and he has managed to keep a clean sheet on 10 occasions.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are interested in the 34-year-old’s services. Erik ten Hag is keen on improving his team in the summer. Despite their recent humiliating loss at the hands of Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals, the overall performance of the Dutch manager has been great in his first season in charge.
However, he is keen on improving it further by bringing in reinforcements in the summer. The former Ajax boss is looking to add a new goalkeeper to his ranks.
The Red Devils are currently working on extending David de Gea’s contract. The club is keen on reducing his wages before agreeing on a new deal. While the player is not keen on any such agreement, the negotiations are still on.
If De Gea doesn’t renew, they will be forced to sign a new shot-stopper. But, even if he does, Ten Hag still wants to bring in a top-class goalkeeper who could challenge the Spain international for a starting spot.
The Dutch manager is not confident about De Gea, the United number one has made major errors at times and Ten Hag wants to have an adequate cover for the 32-year-old.
The Manchester-based club have a shortlist of goalkeepers that they will push for in the summer. And, Sommer is a part of that list. Ten Hag is a big fan of the 34-year-old. He believes Sommer could surely challenge De Gea for a starting spot. As a result, the Red Devils are keen on having him in their ranks.
