La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly revived their interest in 25-year-old Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui.
According to a report by SPORT, Noussair Mazraoui is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The 25-year-old full-back has been unsettled at Bayern Munich after falling in the pecking order. And he is considering leaving the Bundesliga champions in the summer transfer window.
Noussair Mazraoui has endured a topsy-turvy career thus far while enjoying phenomenal success on the international stage. The player was a part of the Moroccan squad that scripted history by reaching the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals. But he has not enjoyed a memorable season with Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old joined the Bundesliga champions in a Bosman move last summer but has managed a little over 1,000 minutes of game time. And Mazraoui’s stock has fallen since Joao Cancelo’s arrival in January, with the player becoming a bit-part figure. Such a situation has left him frustrated while reviving Barcelona’s interest.
Joan Laporta recently revealed that Barcelona would delve into the market for a right-back this summer. And the stance is hardly surprising, considering their struggles to find a long-term successor to Dani Alves. The situation has become so untenable that Jules Kounde, a centre-back, has played as Barcelona’s first-choice right-back this season.
So it behoves Barcelona to scour the market for a right-back. And several options, including Reece James, have emerged on their radar. But Mazraoui is also a candidate worth considering for the Blaugrana. Despite struggling for relevance this term, the 25-year-old has proven his credentials.
The Moroccan international was particularly impressive at the World Cup and has the quality to succeed for Barcelona. But the Catalan giants face stiff competition for the player. And recent reports have linked him with Premier League heavyweights like Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, it is unclear how much Bayern Munich will demand to part ways with the 25-year-old. And amid Barcelona’s financial woes, they might not be able to sign Mazraoui from the Bundesliga club. For now, the former Ajax full-back remains on Barcelona’s radar over a move in the summer transfer window.
