Newcastle United are interested in 21-year-old Portuguese defender Goncalo Inacio amid interest from Manchester United.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle United want to sign Goncalo Inacio ahead of next season. The 21-year-old defender has been on fire in the ongoing season. And, a lot of clubs are interested in acquiring his services ahead of next season, including Manchester United.
Inacio has joined the Sporting CP youth academy back in 2012. He has since gone up the ranks at the club and has become an integral part of their first team. The 21-year-old has taken his game to the next level in the ongoing season.
He has featured in 45 matches in the current campaign and has been involved in six goals. The Portugal international has been the mainstay of his team so far, and he has been a major reason for their good defensive performances.
Inacio’s heroics in the ongoing season resulted in a national call-up, and it has also resulted in a lot of interest in his services from across Europe. While his contract runs until the summer of 2026, the 21-year-old defender could be on the move in the summer given the amount of interest in him.
As per the report, Sporting could accept an offer of around £45 million for the Portuguese international. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are keen on acquiring the 21-year-old. The Magpies are looking to add further firepower to the ranks ahead of next season.
They have done exceptional transfer business over the last two transfer windows. And, the results have come on the pitch as they are currently pushing for a top-four spot in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe is keen to take his team to the next step. The Magpies do have the financial power to go big in the window and provide their manager with the resources to push for the title. Howe is keen on adding a new defender to his ranks.
The Newcastle United boss is a big admirer of Inacio and would love to have him in his ranks next season. However, they will have to battle it out with Manchester United. The Red Devils have done a great job this season. But they still have a long way to go.
