Discussions between Barcelona and Tottenham regarding 27-year-old French defender Clement Lenglet are reportedly moving in the right direction.
According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Clement Lenglet is inching closer to joining Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants are negotiating a deal with Barcelona for the 27-year-old defender. And the talks are on the “right track” despite the emergence of Inter Milan in the equation.
Clement Lenglet has reached a crossroads in his career after a sub-par campaign on loan at Tottenham. The French international has become a peripheral figure on the international stage. And he does not have a future as a Barcelona player after becoming a bit-part player before his temporary exit last summer.
The 27-year-old was once among the best defenders in La Liga after making a solid impact upon his arrival in 2018. Lenglet was the first-choice centre-back for Barcelona for a long time before his stock plummeted. Meanwhile, he has been fairly regular for Tottenham this season, turning out 30 times across all competitions.
But the Frenchman has not been consistent, with Tottenham also enduring a forgettable season. And despite early reports claiming that Tottenham will not sign him permanently, a summer agreement is seemingly on the cards. The story by SPORT (h/t Sport Witness) also corroborates that.
The report suggests that the 27-year-old is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. But the Serie A giants face an uphill task pursuing the Barcelona loanee. That is because talks between Barcelona and Tottenham are moving in the right direction. This update comes in the wake of suggestions that the discussions have been advancing.
Lenglet can be an asset for Tottenham if he can rediscover his best form. But that is a big ‘if’, considering the player’s struggles in the last few years. Nonetheless, the Barcelona loanee is inching closer to sealing a permanent move to Tottenham.

The 27-year-old will now focus on ending the season strongly to remain in the new manager’s plans. As for Barcelona, the Blaugrana will likely enter the market for a left-footed centre-back after selling Lenglet to Tottenham.
