Aston Villa lead race to sign Miles Leaburn

Aston Villa are reportedly leading the race to land 19-year-old Charlton Athletic teenage sensation Miles Leaburn.

According to The Sun, Premier League side Premier League Aston Villa are leading the race to land promising Charlton Athletic starlet Miles Leaburn in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old spent his early years at Chelsea before moving to The Valley in 2019. He made his senior debut aged 18 against Accrington Stanley, scoring in the League One draw that ended 2-2 in 2022.

Leaburn has so far made 36 appearances for the lower-league side, scoring 12 times and assisting three more. A centre-forward with an imposing 6ft 5in frame, he is slowly yet steadily cementing himself as a prolific player.

Several top-flight sides are now aware of the youngster’s ability and that includes Aston Villa. A striker appears to be on the Villans’ radar after they parted ways with then-top-scorer Danny Ings in the January transfer window.

However, the decision has not come back to bite them as Ollie Watkins has risen to the challenge and is today back to his best. There is still a spot open for another attacker to be incorporated, and Leaburn could prove to be a long-term addition to the club’s roster.

A solid finisher who is strong in the air, Leaburn is a solid centre forward who can act as a target man. The level of the Premier League is a notch higher and he will take some getting used to. But as long as Unai Emery can work his magic, there is no reason why the 19-year-old can develop into Villa’s star forward in the years to come.

Aston Villa are leading the race to land the young Englishman and will do well to wrap up an agreement quickly. The longer they wait, the more likely that other teams will be drawn into the fray, especially if Leaburn continues to impress.

The youngster does have an emotional connection with Charlton, where his father Carl, who made 344 appearances for the club between 1987 and 1998. Unfortunately staying on at Charlton is unlikely to see the youngster succeed. And moving to Villa Park could give him the platform needed to develop his career.

Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on Divock Origi, who continues to struggle at AC Milan. The former Liverpool man is a proven star in the Premier League and is also often familiar with the backup striker’s role. With the San Siro stint failing to bear fruit, a move to Villa Park could prove to be a win-win for all parties.
