Arsenal and Manchester United will have to pay £80 million if they want to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United and Arsenal can prise Moises Caicedo away from Brighton & Hove Albion for £80 million. The 21-year-old will be a highly sought-after player in the summer despite signing a new contract with his club recently.
Caicedo has been sensational for club and country over the past year. And, a lot of clubs have their eyes set on him. Quite a few clubs wanted to sign the Ecuador international in the winter, Arsenal were one of them. As per reports, Arsenal placed a £70 million bid for the midfielder. But Brighton rejected it as they did not want to part ways with their star man mid-season.
The 21-year-old has been a key figure for the Seagulls in the centre of the park in the ongoing season. He has featured in 32 matches and has two goal contributions. Caicedo penned down a new deal in March, and the new contract runs until the summer of 2027. However, it will have no impact on a potential transfer as per the reports.
While Arsenal had a £70 million bid rejected in the winter, they can land him at the club for £80 million ahead of next season. But, they are not alone in the race for his signatures, with Manchester United willing to go all out for the 21-year-old.
Erik ten Hag has done a great job at Manchester United since arriving in the summer. He has transformed the club into a winning team. And they have already won a trophy under him. But there is still a long way to go according to the Dutch boss.
He has identified a few key areas that need reinforcement as they look to push for the league title next season. The Dutch manager is keen on signing a new midfielder. With Scott McTominay’s future uncertain and Marcel Sabitzer set to return to his parent club, Manchester United are in need of midfield depth. And, Caicedo seems to be a great option for the present as well as the future.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are expected to return for the 21-year-old’s services. This time around, they are well aware of the price tag and will surely make a bid to land him at the club. Arteta did end the winter window by signing Jorginho.
But he still feels the need for another midfielder to take his team to the next level. And, the Spanish manager believes Caicedo is the perfect solution for his team. With two of England’s biggest clubs ready to enter a bidding war for the 21-year-old, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
