Arsenal are interested in acquiring the services of 17-year-old Flamengo star Matheus Goncalves ahead of next season.
According to journalist Jorge Nicola (h/t Sport Witness), Arsenal are interested in signing Matheus Goncalves in the upcoming transfer window. The 17-year-old wonderkid has been on the radar of multiple teams from across Europe, and the Gunners do not want to miss out on him at any cost.
Arsenal have been keeping a close eye on the teenager for a while now and are impressed with what they have seen. The teenager is considered a huge future prospect, and as a result, there are a lot of clubs willing to break the bank to acquire the wonderkid.
Goncalves has come up the ranks at the Flamengo. Despite being just 17, he has already featured in 11 matches for their first team and also has two goal contributions. The 17-year-old is considered to be a generational talent.
Nicola pointed out in a YouTube video that the former Flamengo manager Dorival Junior, as well as the coach, believes Goncalves has the potential to be a special player. They consider him to be the biggest gem coming through their youth academy.
The 17-year-old is their third youngest player ever to score a goal for the first team. And, with the player all set to be 18 in August, a lot of clubs are eager to sign the teenager. Arsenal are one of the clubs keen on him and they are willing to push all the way.
Goncalves’s current contract with the Brazilian side ends in 2025. While there are a lot of clubs keen on the teenager, he is protected by a €100 million release clause. And, it will be interesting to see if anyone triggers it or manages to convince Flamengo to sell at a lower price.
Arsenal are currently leading the race for the Premier League title. They are completely focused on the task at hand. However, their think tank has started planning about the upcoming window.
The Gunners are positive about their chances of signing the teenager. He has been on their radar for a while now and they are likely to push for him in the summer. People at the club believe he could be a great signing for the present as well as the future. However, it will be interesting to see if they can manage to prise him away from the Brazilian club ahead of next season.
