Tottenham front-runners to sign James Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to sign Leicester City playmaker James Maddison at the end of the season.

According to a report from Daily Telegraph, Tottenham will have to pay £50 million for English playmaker James Maddison. And the north Londoners are currently front-runners to secure his services.

Maddison has a contract with Leicester City until the summer of 2024. And the Foxes will be under pressure to sell him at the end of this season. They will not want to lose the player as a free agent next summer. So this summer is their final opportunity to recoup a substantial amount of money for his services. And it hardly surprising they want £50 million to part ways with him.

The 26-year-old has been a key player for Leicester City since joining the club from Norwich. But he deserves to play at a higher level now. He has been linked with Manchester United and Newcastle as well, apart from Tottenham.

Maddison has proven himself to be one of the most reliable playmakers in the Premier League. Tottenham could certainly use someone like him creating opportunities for their strikers. Players like Son Heung-min and Richarlison have not been able to score goals consistently this season. And someone like Maddison could set up more opportunities for them.

Furthermore, star striker Harry Kane has had to drop deep quite often to create opportunities for himself and his teammates. Maddison could share the creative burden and allow players like Kane to focus on the goal scoring.

The 26-year-old midfielder has nine goals and six assists to his name across all competitions this season. In addition, he is likely to improve further when he is playing alongside top-class players like Kane. Maddison will add goals and creativity from the central areas. He is also an expert free-kick taker who will add a new dimension to the Tottenham attack.

The midfielder is entering his peak years, and he could play his best football for Tottenham if he manages to stay fit. Furthermore, the £50 million asking price could look like a bargain if the English playmaker manages to adapt quickly and make an immediate impact at Tottenham.
