Romano said: “One of Liverpool’s main targets this summer will be Mason Mount for sure.”
The 24-year-old has been at Chelsea since his childhood days. He has come through the ranks at the club and has become one of their most important players of late. Mount was promoted to the Blues’ first team after an impressive loan spell at Derby back in the 2018-19 season.
The England international has since featured in 192 matches for the London club and has 70 goal contributions. Mount played a key role in their Champions League triumph a few seasons back.
Things have been a touch complicated of late with the player heading into the final year of his contract with Chelsea. His contract ends in the summer of 2024 and the Blues are keen on an extension. However, the player has rejected the offer presented by the club.
He wants pay parity with the club’s highest earners. However, Chelsea are not ready to pay him that big a wage at this point in time. With his contract ending next summer, they might have no other options than to listen to offers for the 24-year-old. As they would not want him to leave for free the following summer.
The Merseyside club are keen on having Mount at their club. They are looking for a major overhaul in the centre of the park. Quite a few senior players are expected to be shown the exit door after a disappointing ongoing season. And, they believe adding Mount could be a great move for the future of the club.
While Liverpool have identified the Chelsea midfielder as a priority target, it won’t be that easy to sign him. Mount is on the radar of quite a few big clubs from across Europe and along with that the Blues will try their best to avoid letting a homegrown player join a rival club.
