Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, who is considering a move to Anfield.
According to Foot Mercato, Kim Min-jae considering joining Liverpool in the summer. The Premier League club have been monitoring the 26-year-old for a while and are expected to push for his signatures after the end of the ongoing season.
Kim has taken the world by storm since arriving in Italy. The 26-year-old defender came into the limelight after impressive performances at Fenerbahce. His heroics for the Turkish club attracted the attention of the Serie A club, who decided to sign him ahead of the ongoing season.
He has gone from strength to strength since arriving in Serie A. Kim has since featured in 35 matches for Napoli and also have three goal contributions to his name. The South Korean international has been a rock in their defence and has hardly put a foot wrong.
He has been one of the main reasons for Napoli’s dominance in the league. The team in blue are leading the race for the Serie A title and have a 19-point lead over the second-placed team. Napoli are on their way to their third Serie A title.
The 26-year-old was sensational in the FIFA World Cup 2022 as well. And, his performances throughout the ongoing season have not gone unnoticed. Multiple clubs from across Europe have their eyes on the centre-back.
Liverpool, who have had a tough time in the ongoing season, will head into the upcoming transfer market in search of reinforcement. Jurgen Klopp is keen on signing a new defender along with a few midfielders. The German manager has his eyes set on the 26-year-old.
He believes Kim could form a deadly defensive partnership with Virgil van Dijk. And, the player is ready to push for his signatures. The South Korean international’s contract at Napoli runs until the summer of 2025, but there is a €90 million release clause which could lead to an early exit.
Napoli do want their star man to stay at the club and are trying to pen a new contract with the 26-year-old in order to remove the release clause. But it will depend on the player. As per the reports, the player’s entourage is keen on a move to Liverpool. And, as a result, he could join Jurgen Klopp’s men in the summer.
However, it won’t be easy to strike a deal with Napoli for his services. They will have to trigger the release clause and square up against other big clubs from across Europe to land the 26-year-old at the club.
