Real Madrid recently approached the entourage of Villarreal defender and Barcelona target Juan Foyth, who has a release clause worth €54 million.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Juan Foyth is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions want to sign the Villarreal defender, whose release clause is worth €54 million. And they have sounded out the Argentine international, also a target for Barcelona.
Juan Foyth has established himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga since joining Villarreal. The 25-year-old’s career was headed nowhere during his ill-fated stint with Tottenham Hotspur. But he has turned his fortunes around significantly following the move to Estadio de la Ceramica.
The Argentine international has also been a regular for his national side while being a part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning squad. Meanwhile, Foyth has turned out nearly 100 times for Villarreal, chipping in with three goals and five assists. And the player’s progress has captured the attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Barcelona attempted to sign Foyth last summer, but a move did not materialise. However, the Catalan giants remain interested, despite the player’s hefty release clause of €54 million. Recent reports have also claimed that Barcelona might offer a part-exchange deal to bring the asking price down from €54 million.
Meanwhile, the interest in the 25-year-old is understandable, considering Xavi Hernandez does not have a reliable right-back in his squad. And while Jules Kounde has done exceedingly well, he is primarily a right-back. But Barcelona will face stiff competition from Real Madrid for the player.
Real Madrid must sign a right-back amid Dani Carvajal’s waning performance levels. Even though their need is not as urgent as Barcelona’s, the Merengues need an alternative to Carvajal. And Real Madrid recently sounded out Foyth’s entourage over a potential summer deal. And they are in a decent position to pay €54 million to sign the Argentine international.

Villarreal will not let the World Cup winner leave for less than €54 million. And it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will step up the efforts to sign Foyth after approaching his environment. Meanwhile, Barcelona will also remain in the equation for the former Tottenham defender.
