Newcastle United are keen on acquiring the services of 26-year-old Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
According to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, Newcastle United are interested in signing Scott McTominay in the summer. The 26-year-old midfielder has been on their radar for a while now and they are likely to push for his signatures in the upcoming transfer window.
The Magpies wanted to sign McTominay in the winter but they couldn’t manage to strike a deal with United. According to Romano signing a midfielder in the summer is a priority for Newcastle and they could once again push for the Scotland international.
Fabrizio Romano said, “Scott McTominay remains a player they really like, including Eddie Howe; but Man United rejected the approaches in January and let’s see what they will decide in the summer!”
McTominay has been a part of Manchester United since his childhood days. The 26-year-old has gone up the ranks to become an important part of their squad. He was promoted to their first team back in 2017 and has since featured in over 200 matches for the Red Devils.
The Scotland international was on fire in the recent international break. He featured in both the UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers matches for his country and managed to score 4 goals.
As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the 26-year-old midfielder has featured in 32 matches. But, he has been on the pitch for just over 1300 minutes. McTominay is no longer a first-team regular at Old Trafford and is likely to part ways with the club in the summer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United are keen on having him in their ranks. The Magpies have done a great job in the ongoing season. They are currently fifth in the league and pushing for a Champions League spot. Eddie Howe’s team have already started planning for the upcoming season. And, signing a midfielder is one of their priorities.
Scott McTominay is a primary transfer target for the Magpies. Howe is a big admirer of the Manchester United midfielder and believes he can surely bolster their squad. McTominay’s arrival will increase the depth of their midfield and allow the manager to have multiple options to work with.
While it does not look like that big a task to sign the 26-year-old, there are a few other clubs who are keen on having the Scotland international in their ranks. As a result, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle manage to strike a deal for McTominay.
