Manchester United are all set to break the bank to acquire the services of 24-year-old Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United are preparing to make a big splash in the transfer market to sign Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old Nigerian international has been in red-hot form this season, leading the Serie A scoring charts with 21 goals in 23 games. And, he has caught the attention of several top clubs across Europe.
Reports suggest that Napoli won’t be willing to let their marksman leave for less than their valuation of €150 million. A fee that would make him the third most expensive player in history after Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
But with Manchester United’s financial might and the urgent need for a world-class striker to fill the giant boots of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Red Devils are willing to break the bank for Osimhen. The 24-year-old joined Napoli back in the summer of 2020 from LOSC Lille. And, he has done wonders since joining the Serie A club. Osimhen has 67 goal contributions in his 91 appearances.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are ready to go all out for the Nigerian international. The Red Devils are keen on acquiring a new number nine ahead of next season. With Anthony Martial’s future at the club uncertain and Wout Weghorst set to return to his parent club, Erik Ten Hag is in desperate need of a new number nine.
The Dutch boss wants to sign a forward who will bring a lot of goals with him and there are not many better than Osimhen at this point in time. The 24-year-old’s versatility, pace, and ability to score goals from different positions make him an ideal fit for Manchester United’s attacking setup.
His arrival could help the Dutch manager push for the Premier League and Champions League titles next season. However, it remains to be seen whether Manchester United will meet Napoli’s asking price, but given the importance of having a world-class striker in today’s game, the Red Devils could be tempted to break the bank for Osimhen.
If they do, it could be the signing that propels them back to the top of the Premier League. Meanwhile, Manchester United takeover talks are in its final stages and if they do have a new owner, they might go all out to land the Napoli forward.
