Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing 22-year-old Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, a target for Manchester United, ahead of next season.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having Marc Guehi in their ranks. The 22-year-old centre-back is one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League, and a lot of clubs are interested in his services.
Guehi joined the Chelsea youth academy back in 2007. The 22-year-old came up the ranks at the Blues and also enjoyed multiple loan spells at Swansea City. While he did show signs of massive improvements, first-team minutes were hard to come by. As a result, the England international joined Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021.
He moved to Crystal Palace for a fee of £18 million. And, Guehi has gone from strength to strength since joining them. The 22-year-old has made a total of 72 appearances for the Eagles and has 5 gaol contributions to his name.
Guehi has become an integral part of their squad over the last two seasons. While his contract at the club runs until the summer of 2026, he is expected to move to a bigger club in the summer given the amount of interest in his services.
The Eagles value him at around £50-60 million and a fee close to that will be good enough to prise him away. However, the asking price could go down if they fail to survive in the English top flight. Palace are currently 12th in the league but are only three points above the relegation zone.
Manchester United are one of the clubs that are keen on having the 22-year-old in their ranks. They are looking for a new centre-back amidst uncertainty around club captain Harry Maguire’s future.
Maguire is no longer a first-team regular at Old Trafford and might be on his way out in the summer. Erik ten Hag wants to add a young defender to his ranks so that he can eventually become a regular in the first team.
However, Manchester United will face tough competition from Spurs. As per recent reports, Tottenham are leading the race to sign the 22-year-old. They are looking to sign a new left-sided centre-back ahead of next season on a priority basis.
Clement Lenglet is all set to return to his parent club in the summer. And Tottenham are in desperate need of a new defender as they look to build a new project under a new boss. The London club have identified Guehi as an important target and will push for his services in the summer.
Their managing director Fabio Paratici is eager to bring Guehi to the club. And it will be interesting to see if they can manage to strike a deal with Palace for the England international.
