Tottenham Hotspur have submitted an enquiry for 28-year-old Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.
According to Football Transfers, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Aymeric Laporte. Spurs are looking to strengthen their defence ahead of next season and are keen on adding the 28-year-old to their ranks. The London club have already enquired about the Manchester City defender.
Steve Kay said, “Tottenham have been looking for a young, versatile defender for quite a while now, and they have recently inquired about Aymeric Laporte and Pau Torres.”
“They want someone who can play as a left- or right-sided centre-back in place of Eric Dier, who is a midfielder playing in a centre-back role, and Davinson Sanchez, who has been at the club since 2016 but simply hasn’t hit the heights expected of him.”
Laporte has been a part of the Manchester City setup since joining them in the winter of 2018 from Athletic Club. The 28-year-old has featured in 171 matches for Pep Guardiola’s team and has 16 goal contributions to his name.
The Spain international has been a great servant for the club but things haven’t gone according to plan for him of late. He has only featured in 16 matches so far this season with just over 1300 minutes under his belt. Laporte has suffered a few injuries but in reality, he has gone down the pecking order at the club. And his market value has fallen to €30 million.
His contract at Manchester City runs until the summer of 2025. However, he might look for opportunities elsewhere in the upcoming transfer window. And, Manchester City might let him leave if they receive the right bid for his services.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have shown interest in signing the 28-year-old centre-back. The London club have had a tough time of late. They have been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League, and Antonio Conte is likely to be sacked in the coming days.
The Italian manager blasted his players and the club after their 3-3 draw against Southampton in the league. And, that has not gone down well with the people at the club. Spurs have already started looking for a new boss.
Despite all that is going on at the club, they have started planning for the next season. Tottenham are looking to sign a couple of new centre-backs. They are looking for players who can replace Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez in the centre of the defence.
